THE YELLOW DINNER

Returning to 1969, it seems the King has left a dinner for the weary team. It's very generous, but very yellow... and the King does not seem to quite... understand how foods go together or how to serve them. Blocks of cheese are presented with a tea strainer, pots of piccalilli sit alongside slices of mango, there are teapots full of crisps, yellow cocktail umbrellas surround a single yellow potato on a silver stand. It's a deranged Mad Hatter's Dinner Party of yellow delight.

Somewhere amongst the glorious yellow chaos there is a main meal of curried chicken, saffron rice, and chickpea & yellow pepper tagine.

Side dishes include yellow tomatoes, grated yellow carrots, mashed potato, cheese, sweetcorn, yellow beetroot, piccalilli chutney, mustard, corn bread, a lemon trifle,  yellow jelly, custard, whipped cream, sliced peaches, lemon pie, pineapple slices, mango chunks, Battenburg cake with the pink sections removed and some yellow biscuits with iced crowns on them.

The meal was a thing of beauty (all credit to Jo and her team) and comes with a card from the King, repeating their offer and ending with the phrase ‘alzifaf al’asfar', or The Yellow Wedding.
